Earlier on today we had reported on an Apple Smart Cover lookalike for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 by the company Anymode. While Samsung had not actually authorized the production of said cover or designed it themselves, their tacit approval spoke volumes. It seemed a little odd that they would approve of a product so similar in design to Apple's Smart Cover, considering that both companies are currently in a legal battle over patent infringements.
As it turns out, a couple of hours after the covers had hit the internet and news of it spread like wildfire, Samsung announced that they had not given Anymode permission to use their name with its products, and that they're currently trying to distance themselves from the blatant imitation product that was put out.
According to the official statement given by Samsung:
“As a general practice, Samsung Electronics reviews and approves all accessories produced by partners before they are given the “Designed for Samsung Mobile” mark.
“In this case, approval was not given to Anymode for the accessory to feature this official designation. We are working with Anymode to address this oversight and the product has already been removed from the Anymode sales website. The product has not been sold.”
