Vodafone UK ditches the HTC Evo 3D

Posted by Tux at 4:27 PM
About one full month ago, we first spotted the HTC Evo 3D hanging out on Vodafone UK's Coming Soon page. And naturally we thought that the operator wanted to sell it to its customers when it would become available. That may have been the case then, but in the meantime Big Red has changed its mind.

Vodafone will no longer be stocking the HTC Evo 3D. Eurodroid has gotten hold of a brief statement from Vodafone on the matter, and here it is for your reading pleasure:

“There's been speculation recently regarding availability of HTC EVO 3D.

We can confirm that due to delays in the launch of the HTC EVO 3D, we no longer intend to include the device in our smartphone range. We'll be contacting any customers who registered their interest shortly.

We realise this might come as a disappointment, but we've got some really exciting handsets in the pipeline. Keep an eye on our coming soon section for all the latest information about the products coming to Vodafone.”

The HTC Evo 3D has been delayed quite a lot, that's for sure. In fact, I'm starting to wonder whether that was the plan all along. HTC may have hurried the announcement of the GSM version of the device without it actually being ready. That way, people's perception wouldn't be (for many months) that the LG Optimus 3D was the only 3D-capable smartphone around. Even if it technically still is and will be for the foreseeable future.

Regardless of HTC's strategy or lack thereof, the 3D gimmickry doesn't seem to be as successful as manufacturers hoped it would be, at least not on phones. We'll have to wait and see how this changes (or doesn't) over time. Until then, if you're a Vodafone customer and wanted to get an Evo 3D, this has been bad news for you.
